Question -
so i was wondering is it ok to leave my new kitten in the bathroom at night with a closed door. he has plenty of food and water and litter box but my family can't go to sleep at night because of his constant mewing. what should i do to ease the mewing and what does the mewing mean. does it mean he's lonely or wants attention.

Question -
i have a male kitten that is the age of about one month. hasn't been declawed and neutered yet. my question is about behavior. Andy, My kitten, finds the toes of
my family interesting. like when i'm alone with him on the bathroom and
i'm sitting on the counter and my feet are dangling he likes to claw or
try to get them as if i was dangling a mouse over his head. he also
likes gnawing at our toes. he doesn't bite on them he likes gnawing on
them. also he likes shoelaces so we use it as a toy. but when he's playing it
looks like he's getting vicious with it. and at times he'll get vicious
with himself like he'll try and catch his tail and go crazy on himself.
so my question is it a violent behavior or normal cat instinct
behavior. if it is violent or aggressive behavior tell me what i should do.
srry and i have another question what should i do when my kitten uses
our couch like a scrathing post and keeps jumping on it. my mother loves
our furniture and gets really mad when he jumps on it but she doesn't
get mad at Andy.
i'm really sorry i ask so many questions but this is my first time
caring for a cat and i just would like to know whats normal and whats not.
thanks alot,
michelle"

Hi Michelle!
Andy is displaying typical behaviour for a kitten.  When he is "attacking" your feet, he is actually acting playing with you but it is an inborn trait that cats in the wild learn as a way of "attacking" their prey.  I also have a new kitten, and he attacks my feet at night too!  They can get a little rough, but it's all play, nothing really to worry about. Kittens love to play and Andy is just having a great time. As they get older, the agression dies down. Right now, he is just being a normal kitten.  As far as jumping on the couch, good luck keeping him off!   You can try using a squirt bottle filled with water, and spray him every time he jumps on the couch. That might work.  As far as scratching goes, this is a normal habit and cats need to scratch to not only clean their nails , but to shed excessive growth.  You need to provide him with a place to scratch.  You can buy scratching posts as Walmart at a reasonable price.  The ones that go from the floor to ceiling cost a little more, but cats love them! It not only gives them a place to scratch, but good exercise too.  You can't expect him not to scratch on the furniture if you don't provide him with something to scratch on. Once you get a scratching post, and he doesn't use it, you may need to teach him how. Just take him and lift both of his feet and manually take his paws and scratch on the tree. He will get the gist of it.
Good luck with your new kitty!

Hello again!

He could be lonely and just wants some attention. Have you tried picking him up and putting him in bed with you? My kitten climbs into my bed every night and he settles down beside me, but first I pet on him and baby talk him a little bit.  Make sure he isn't hungry.  Kittens need to be fed several times a day.  I give mine a mixture of a good dry kitten food, mixed with canned cat food and cottage cheese.  This will give him some good nutrients.  If he is fed and given attention and still cries, then you can put him in the bathroom at night, but I'm afraid he will cry even louder. (make sure the toilet lid is down to preven accidental drowning.)  Putting a cat or kitten behind closed doors just makes the crying worse I think.  If you do that , though, be sure to put something in there for him to sleep on, a cat bed or a warm comforter.  Cats like to cuddle up on something comfy.  But I really suggest you take him to bed with you and pet on him, I bet he just wants attention.

God Bless,
Becky

I forgot to mention.......if you go to the Purina website, you can apply for a free coupon for a bag of Purina Cat food!  Just go to any search engine and type in Purina cat food.  It's called the Purina challenge, I think... a promotion to try their food.

Blessings!
