cat bathing

Question
Dear Norman,

I have an 8 month old male domestic neutered house cat.  He's (Sugar) very smart too.

My son and I have tried 3 or 4 times giving him a bath, but he hates it sooo much that most of the time we spend more time chasing after him or being "clawed to death!"  So I've resorted to taking him to the vets for a clipping and bathing, but I didn't like this because they had to sedate him, because he was too wild and not to mention the cost because if I'm to do this atleast once a month, it sure adds up.

So how can me and my son give him a proper bath without looking like a shredding towel afterwards?

Yours faithfully,

Neena

Answer
Neena,

Have you tried a pet grooming establishment?

Often they can cope with recalcetrant cats.

Cats we have to bath are started out as kittens (12 weeks of age). We clip their claws and bath them in a utility sink.

However, I can empathize with your plight.

The first order of business is to clip those claws.

Best regards... Norm.
