cat labour/pregnancy

Question
My cat Magic had one kitten at 3:30 yesterday and she hasn't had another one? Is it normal for her to be carrying her kitten around and not having any more?

Answer
It is definitely possible that she only had one kitten.  If she does still have another one inside her, then you should see signs that she is still in labor such as contractions (you can feel them by placing your hand gently on her abdomen) and restlessness.  If she is still in labor, and she is unable to have the kitten, you will need to take her to the vet for an emergency caesarian, or it will kill her.  If she is lying quietly and nursing her one kitten, and you see no signs of labor, then most likely she only had the one all along.
