2 female cats humping??

Question
I have a spayed female Bengal cat that will be a year in September...well then the breeder called and said one of her Bengal's got out and pregnant would we like a 1/2 Bengal of course we took her. We think the kitten is half Manx too due to her bobtail and her characteristics. Well the kitten is about 16 weeks and not spayed yet and the two have been together for about 5 weeks and now all of a sudden we think the kitten is "humping" the older one and the older one does not like this at all of course!! Can you help?

Answer
Stacee,

It sounds to me as if the younger one is beginning to cycle.  At 16 weeks, she can be spayed.  Some of the vets do not know that early spaying is doable and, even, desirable.  In Australia and Europe cats have been neutered and spayed as young as 12 weeks of age (or a minimum weight of 4 pounds) and have over 20 years of follow up studies.  See:

This will solve most of the problem.  What you also must remember is that kittens love to play roughly and your girl may be objecting to the combination of the rough play and the fact that the kitten may be cycling.

Even though you may have spayed the kitten, the hormone levels may take a couple of weeks to dissipate.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards... Norm.
