Our Cat wont eat or drink

Question
We recently took our cat(he is 10yrs.) to a vet clinic and had to leave him there for 2 days.In those 2 days my wife called numerous times to find out how he was doing. They kept telling us that he was not eating or drinking anything. After we got him home,he was totally dehidrated(they did not give him any fluids) and very scared. This was almost 2 weeks ago.He has not eaten or is eating and drinking very little. Also,my wife tried giving him water thru a plastic syringe last night and he kept throwing up(the vomit was green). The reason we had taken him to the vet in the 1st place, was that he was not urinating. He is urinating now but has not had a bowl movement in a few days.We took him to our family vet, but he says everything is fine.Any help would be appreciated.Thank you.

Answer
Hi Robert, It sounds like you have a very sick cat. I am shocked that your family vet would say everything is fine if the cat is dehydrated and vomiting green stuff and not eating !!
I would get advise from another vet.ASAP BUT.. before you go throwing money away on a new vet ask around to neighbors and friends, co workers etc to see if they have a vet they recommend. Even some of the shelters can recommend you to someone who will take good care of your fellow. Sometimes it is worth driving out of your area to get a good vet... just like we do with our own doctors! At 10 yrs old there are many things that can be happening to your cat. Renal problems are very common and although not curable they can be managed if you get quick treatment so that your cat can live many more years with you.
I wish you luck and I  hope it is nothing too serious. Teresa
