Pedigree Papers?

16:14:21

Question
For the first time ever, my wife and I last year bought a so-called pedigree
kitten from a breeder at a pet store (we'd always adopted previously), paying
several hundred dollars in the process, only to have the breeder continually
delay sending us the papers. Excuses have ranged from monumental personal
issues to inadvertent distractions, with the end result being apologies, further
explanations as to why the Rag Doll still hasn't been registered and promises
to do so immediately. But with no change. So we'd like to take action but are
unsure whom to contact, what to demand, etc. Is there a breeding association
I should get in touch with? (I don't believe she breeds Rag Dolls anymore but
she does breed dogs.) The Better Business Bureau? Another agency or group?
We obviously don't want to give the cat back but would like to do something.
Should we demand money back? And, if so, how much? We'd appreciate your
recommendations! Thanks!

Answer
Hi,

If you bought the cat at the pet store and not directly from the breeder, then it is the job of the store to either make sure that you do get your papers, or refund a part of the money. The amount is not something that I can compute as I know nothing about the details.
However, if you can not get any satisfaction then you should write to either or both CFA (Cat Fanciers Association) or TICA (The International Cat Association) and give them the story. Both of these organizations are located on the Internet as well.
Next time you want to buy a special breed, look for a reputable breeder. It may cost you more, but you will be treated with consideration and you may trust that the cat will be all that you wish.

Good luck,
Barb
