making cats & kittens get along

I have a full grown male cat at home and he's not friendly with other cats, but I want to bring a kitten into my home and I'm wondering how do I make the kitten safe.  I once brought over a friends kitten and my cat hissed and put up his claws at her and I had to move her immediately.  So my question is how do I make the cats get along?

Unfortunately, there is no way to "make" the animals get along. If your tomcat insists on protecting his territory, then he will continue to do so. When raised without other cats, tomcats can be very anti-social when it comes to other felines.

I can't recommend you bring another cat into your home as the risk of the kitten being severely hurt, or possibly killed, is too great.
