Question
My cat has been in labor since I checked on her this morning, she hasn't not had a kitten yet an someone told me it could take up to 2 days is that true? This is her first litter and mine so him not sure what ok or what not normal. she's bleeding but no kitten..what to do?

Answer
Brandi,

It should take an hour from the onset of birthing contractions until the first kitten is produced.  Maybe two hours at the most.  If she has been in hard labor for more than 2 hours and nothing is happening, she is probably in trouble and needs to see a veterinarian.

It is extremely rare for labor to go beyond a few hours for an entire litter, let alone 2 days!!!!!

My advice is to get you and your queen to a veterinarian to see what is happening.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards... Norm.
