My cat wont eat.

My friend gave me her cat because she is moving, this cat is about 15-20 pounds and it wont eat!! it wont go to the bathroom either, im thinking its juss afraid of me (its new owner) but i treat it like god. can someone please let me kno if he'll be ok?

Are you feeding the cat what he was used to eating?  Are you using the same litter your friend used in his litter box?  How old is this cat?  Is it neutered?  Do you have any of the toys or bedding the cat had from its old home?

Cats are creatures of habit and do not handle major changes very well.  So I would continue to feed him and give him a few days.  Give the cat some space to try to figure things out.  So, do not approach the cat until it comes to you for attention. Adult cats do not starve themselves unless they are sick.  Most cats adjust to a new environment in a few days.  So, just be patient and he should come around.

Let me know if things do not improve within a few days.
