Question

Kali
I have a pet cat that I got from my aunt in mississippi. Her dad was siamese and so was her mom except her mom had a little calico in her but my Kali came out black with a few other colors the only place I have seen another cat like her is on the T.V on breeding programs but technically shes not pure breed.how could that have happened what kind of cat is she?

Answer
Destiny,

She is a tortoiseshell domestic shorthair.

The Siamese pattern is in the feral population, so it is apparent that her dad was probably not purebred Siamese.  The Siamese pattern is caused by a recessive gene, so you need to be homozygous (i.e. getting a copy of the Siamese gene from both parents), in order to exhibit the Siamese pattern.

If Kali's sire had the Siamese pattern, then he mama could not have, since Kali does not exhibit the Siamese pattern.

Now, if Kali's mama had some red or calico, and Dad had seal point Siamese coloration, then, it is not surprising that Kali is tortoiseshell.

I hope that the above makes sense, if not, you can send me a picture of Kali's sire and mama and I can get much more detailed rather than speculating on what the parents may have been.

Anyway, Kali is quite pretty with that cream colored blaze running down the center of her nose!!!!!

Best regards... Norm.
