QuestionQUESTION: hi, about 2 - 3 week ago i noticed that my cts tummy looked a bit bigger than usual and her nipples were SLIGHTLY bigger. over the past 2 weeks she has put on more weight and her nipples have become more swollen. only i cant feel any movement in her belly and she has now stopped growing. yes she is much bigger than usual but not as big as i would expect a full term pregnant cat to be. is she prenant or has she just put on weight ??? any advice would be great
ANSWER: Kerry,
The best way to check is to have your vet take a look. It is possible she is in the process of reabsorbing the litter. As far as size, it all depends on how they carry the kittens. I have seen females as big as a house have one kitten and females who barely had put on any weight have 7 kittens. That is why it makes the most sense to see your vet.

QUESTION: what does reabsorbing the litter mean ?
AnswerKerry,
Often, instead of miscarrying, when cats have a problem carrying a litter to term, there bodies absorb the litter and they return to a non-pregnant state. Breeders and vets alike term this reabsorbing the litter.
