cat had kittens, no kittens found

Question
Cat gave birth today, no kittens are found in the house or outside.  What do you suggest?

Answer
Paige,

There are so many possibilities.

Worse case: she could have had problems having the kittens and they all died, after which she would have eaten them.

She has them secreted away in a quiet out of the way place (cats are very, very good at remaining hidden in what appears to be plain site).

Normally, just after having kittens, the mama stays very, very close to them, so she can make sure they are being nursed and stay quiet so as not to attract undue attention.  In addition, she will usually hemorrhage for a couple of days and have her milk in.

So, that brings us to the first real question, is how do you know she actually had the kittens?  If there is a problem with the pregnancy, often the queen will reabsorb the litter.

Second question, have you tried following her to see if you can find her den?

At this point, I have nothing else I can suggest.

Best regards... Norm.
