Question
My cat sadie gave birth this morning and i was just wondering why the last kitten died when she gave birth?

Answer
Unfortunately there are many reasons for complications...

Sometimes when a cat is mated to young, she will end up causing death of her kittens. Some cats become sexually "active" at 6 months...but breeding a 6 month old cat would be like impregnating a 11 year old. She has no idea what to do or how to do it, which usually ends up in the kittens being neglected and dying off!

Sometimes a mother will unintentionally smother her kitten...when nursing, she may lie on top of or "squish" the kitten. Rare, but it happens.

Then there are the cases were a mother cat is roughed up too much during her pregnancy....many people don't understand that simply squeezing a pregnant queen around the belly can kill two kitties easily. In these cases the kittens are either stillborn or injured and unable to hunt or survive sufficiently, in which case the mother cat usually destroys them.

Some kittens are stillborn for no valid or known reason.. they are just born dead.

It's sad.. but when a cat is bred, it's always a risk you take :(

Sorry for your loss. Good luck with the rest of them:)
