Breeding/Seasons Symphoms

Question
I have a breeding queen, which I put with my stud for the very first time in April (Commencing Good Friday of Easter week).
It was decide to mate her 2 months early because she started her cycles at 6 months, and they were coming every 4 weeks.. Each heat she had become more extreme than the previous, and after 5 seasons...I felt and felt felt it shouldn't be left for another. So she was bred.
5 weeks later she was overly affectionate, calling again, presenting herself and wanting to get to the male (writhing around on the floor and very vocal)..
So first attempt (in April) appeared to be a failure.  I put her back in with my stud again for a week (May)... So if it worked this time around, she should now be 3 weeks pregnant.
There is something about her, that is definitely different I noticed this week (she seems to have taken on a more mature appearance in her face, but that could be just general maturing changes).
I also believe she is a looking very slightly rounder. I her nipples are not yet pinked up, but having a bit of a tummy rub I think they feel harder.. but the surrounding area has not swelled.
My gut feel is that the mating was successful and she is pregnant.
She isn't liking being picked up and protests which is out of character, but other than that, she is very affectionate, content I suppose is the best description..d rolls on her back (legs a kimbo similar to when she is in season minus the presenting herself/stress).. but it's quite subtle and not much different to her normal character.

However, today I noticed a slight discharge a brown mucus (it wasn't present yesterday) around her vagina. She licked it away and its not so far appeared again.
I surfed the Internet, some articles suggest she may be coming into season again... I feel this is unlikely as she isn't calling, nor presenting herself and no stressy behavior.
Some suggest it maybe the dislodging of a plug, but from what I can make out, this would not be expected until week 7 onwards (unless of course the first mating was successful (which would make her 7-8 weeks and ties in with the dates, but she is nowhere near big enough, nor has her nipples swollen with milk).
Others point a possible miscarriage, but the discharge doesn't look bloody. UTIs, well its not smelly, nor green or unpleasant in any way...

To settle my mind, I thought I'd book her in to the vets at the first opportunity, but their first available appointment (unless its an emergency) isn't until Saturday..it's now Thursday evening.  So in the meantime, I'd like some feedback if possible.  As to if you think the symptoms are an Emergency and I should take her now and call out the Vet to open Surgery, or just a stage in pregnancy/heat.

Each heat she has been having had become more extreme than the previous.. up until her last she has never had vaginal discharge, but it wouldn't surprise me if (after another Failed mating) the next heat did start to include this discharge as a symptom..But could that start before the calling and over flirty behavior.

Also what are the chances of 2 failed matings, with her being in with my boy for a week each occasion.
My boy was checked over by a vet when I purchased him as a stud for distended testicles, chyleamedeia (excuse spelling) and got the all clear.. he was not a proven boy (as purchased at 9 months). He is now 15 months, very interested in the ladies and tastes the air, very butch, he rarely sprays, but does rub his cheek glands everywhere.  I have seen him mating my female(not to completion as didn't want to put them off and slipped away) on a few occasions..
Could it be he goes through the motions, but is sterile (i.e. a teaser tom)??

I would be interested to know your general feedback on the whole thing.

Answer
Hi Kelly

Thank you for the very full email - I wish everyone was as observant and precise.

It may be from her change in demeanour that she did mate successfully but it is not normal to see discharge unless there is a potential problem.  I had a girl who I had problems in getting mated but when she did 'fall' for the boy, 2.5 weeks after mating she started discharging.  The vet felt it was metritis (just a small infection) and gave her Synulox antibiotics which seemed to clear it up,but a week later she came into season and the discharge increased and was creamy but by the morning had turned green.  My girl had a full blown pyometra (a serious womb infection).

A lot of vets will prescribe neutering but if you don't want to neuter her then you need to be firm if your vet were to suggest it.  My girl was cured by using Baytril, but a lot of breeders use prostaglandin treatment of Alizin which actually expels the contents of the womb and clears it up with the help of antibiotics and I haven't heard of a cat that it was not successful with.  Cats that are cleared of pyometra go on to have healthy litters.

Do keep an eye on your girl and if it gets worse then do take her to the vet straight away.  Otherwise yes wait till Saturday and just get her checked out.

Your boy is still very young and they all mature at different rates. I have know a few boys not start mating successfully until the age of 3. He may even know what he is doing but could do with a bit of help.  A stud boy and his owner are a partnership and you two may need to work together if a girl perhaps pulls away before he has finished or tries to fall over etc.

If he is a long haired breed it might be worth just checking round his penis to make sure there is not a ring of fur around it which would actually prevent him mating successfully even though it looks as though he is.

Marcia.
