Leopard Geckos

Question
My son's leopard gecko Boris, is only about 2 1/2 years old.  He has always looked very healthy, thick tail and body, until about 3 weeks ago.  His tail started getting smaller.  I immediately asked at a local pet store and the guy said that sometimes they randomly will shed their tail, but he will be okay.  But now he is losing a lot of his body weight.  He looks very skinny.  His behavior is like it always is and he is eating and drinking normal.  We usually feed them crickets with occasional mealworms.  I have been switching off everytime with each lately since I have noticed him losing weight.  The other gecko we have in the cage with him is fine.  I have called a couple of vets in the area, but most aren't very familiar with them and want a large fee just for an office visit.  Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.     Sandie

Answer
This could be several different things. Anywhere from parasites to depression. You should definitly take him to the vet. Another thing is, after they lose their tail, you should keep them in a cage by themself. The other gecko will try to bully him. It may be in ways that a human does not notice or even when you are not watching. Well, I hope I helped a little. Definitly take him to the vet. Have a good day.
