Diarrhea and swollen vulva in spayed female cat

Question
Hi Dr Sherrell,

I have a 3 year old spayed female cat that has been having diarrhea since Friday pm.  We did switch her food fairly quickly which we have never done before, but the diarrhea did not start  until about 2 weeks after switching her food.  I noticed that her bum is very red and that her vulva is swollen.  She was spayed 2 1/2 years ago and her hair on her belly and back legs have never grown back.  She does have a heart murmur but is not any any meds at this time for it.  the diaphragm is the consistency of pancake batter and very light brown in color.  There is some mucus in the stool, no blood, or yowling when defecating.  i did notice her scoot after the diarrhea had begun.  She is on advantage multi for deworming and has been for awhile now.  She is an indoor cat.  if you need any more info let me know. Thanks

Katie

Have bloodwork done by your veterinarian.  If she had diarrhea, then there is the possibility that she could have pancreatitis.  Your vet can diagnosis that with radiographs and bloodwork.

If she is on Advantage Multi you will probably not give it to her on a monthly basis if she is an indoor cat.   Are you sure that Advantage Multi is for cats?  Check the label to make certain it is approved for cats in addition to dogs.
