diarrhea

Question
Hello, our 2 yr. old border collie cross we adopted from shelter (was a stray) 2 weeks ago, is eating her high quality holistic dry dog food very nicely, but every 2nd day has diarrhea.  She is very skinny and didn't eat at shelter, so we are happy she likes her food now. She seems very thirsty, goes through 2 dog dishes of water a day.  (approx. 5 cups ) We will be taking her to vet next week for spaying, and will get a vet check as well...no one has given her a vet check at shelter, just distemper shots...she looks very healthy, except scratches her body (maybe dry skin?) and this diarrhea every 2nd day.  We have eliminated all treats to figure out problem.  Do you have any suggestions or things we should look for / ask our vet next week?  Thanks!

Have your vet do a fecal exam and bloodwork to help find out why your dog has diarrhea.  The problem may be stress since she is in a new environment.   Even though she maybe happy to be in her new home, she may still be experiencing a little stress because she is in new surroundings.

She may be thirsty due to the fluid loss from her diarrhea. The veterinarian can give fluids and antibiotics if your dog needs them.
