My kitten will not eat dry food

Question
I've seen this question on here before but I still need assistance. My kitten is about two/three months old and will NOT eat dry food unless we mix it with wet. I also noticed he is teething, but I have had kittens before that were the same age as him when he got him but unlike the others, Hope refuses to eat dry food if we just put it in a bowl or even try softening it with water, chicken broth, etc. I'm afraid if we keep him on the canned food, he will never eat dry food and my budget is limited. This little guy will eat three cans of food a day and still ask for more. Is it possible that when he is older and finished teething, I can get him to switch to the dry food or am I stuck with this picky eater?

Answer
What kind of dry food are you feeding first of all? Some kitten foods are harder than others to eat, and some kittens do not like the texture or size of the food.

Purina kitten chow is full of milk which gives cats diarrhea. So don't feed that. I would get a small bag of Science Diet kitten growth and try that dry and alone in a bowl. Do not wet it at all. Just let it sit there for a few days, but continue to feed small amounts of the wet. Little by little cut back on the wet and then when he is hungry he will start to eat the dry.

Science Diet is very easy for a little kitten to chew and they LOVE the taste of it. 8 week old kittens do have a harder time chewing some foods which is why they make the Kitten Growth much easier to break down and chew.
They don't get their molars until they are 4 months old and that is probably why he won't chew the food you have now. Plus eating wet food is like eating snickers bars- tastes yummy so why switch?

You will be able to get him onto the dry if you just are patient with him. Don't doctor it up but dump the cat chow or any other cheap brand and get a small bag of the Science Diet kitten growth. He will love it and start eating it within a few days of feeding it. Just keep cutting back on the wet.

Remember this, cats are not born picky eaters- owners are who make them that way! This is not a put down but the truth. I am a pet owner too, but I have seen hundreds of these problems over the years.

So trust me when I say if you follow the plan I just laid out, and get the right food, he will start eating it.

Good luck and let me know how he does!
