Question
I wanted to see if my dogs and my cat can safely eat cilantro lime rice. They all love rice but I wanted to make a special treat for my fiancee and the dogs and my cat love to eat our food. Also, do dogs and cats like cilantro or cilantro lime rice? Thanks for your time in helping me figure this out. Have a great day.

Answer
According to Dr. Becker, cilantro is an irritant and can cause gastrointestinal irritation and cardiac arrhythmia in your pet.

It is never, ever a good idea to feed any of your pets human food. That is the major cause of obesity and serious illnesses in pets.

Dogs and cats are geared to eating one kind of diet, even in the wild. When they stray from that they can get all kinds of illnesses, and some of these, in the domestic pet, can become fatal very quickly.

So leave the cilantro and limes to yourself. A little rice, plain, in their food once and a while is okay. It's bland enough to not cause a stomach upset or cause pancreatitis.

Keep the scraps and human food out of their mouths and food bowls.
