Pomeranian not feeling well

Question
Hi Nicole,

I was wondering if you happen to know what it means when a pomeranian has her tail down. I have a 8 month old pom. She was fine this afternoon. Took her outside and when she came in all she is doing is laying around. She will drink water and has eaten a little. She is usually full of energy and never acts like this. I was contributing it to the heat this afternoon..it was 89 out...but she was not out for more than 10 minutes in the shade. The house is cool inside so I cant figure out what might be bothering her. I would appreciate any help. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Kim!

Your dog may be feeling the effects of the heat, remember that a dog's body temperature is higher than a human, so heat can effect them more than you might realize.

The fact she is eating and drinking is good. As long as your dog does not develop diarrhea or begins to throw up, then there's really nothing to do, but try to keep her cool, and see that she has access to fresh water.

If this goes on for several days, and you feel that the dog still isn't acting right, then it's time for a visit to the veterinarian. There are hundreds of things that can cause a dog to seem listless, ranging from Heartworms to Lyme Disease.

It's good that you are an observant pet owner.

Please let me know how she does!
