Multiplying snails

Question
Todd,

I have a 55 gallon saltwater aquarium with about 4 margarita snails and 3 turbo snails. Lately I have notice several tiny snails all over the live rock and walls of the aquarium. Is there anyway to keep them from multiplying?

Thanks,
Erin

Answer

Erin,

sometimes these snails are hitchhikers on your live rock.  They may take months to appear. So they might not be reproducing as of yet it's hard to say because these baby snails need to find a home such as (tiny shells that are carried on their backs) you may not have any shells that size in your tank.

You have a couple of options: let them roam free, purchase a fish like one from the Hawk fish family that eats tiny snails, also look up species that fit your tank size to control this possible outbreak, cut down to 1 snail of each species.

You could remove ( the babies)as well.  In your current situation if they are reproducing it's almost impossible to stop mother nature.

good luck
Todd
