Question

Purple "algae"
This is the other area I spoke of in the last question.  It looks like some kind of algae, but I cannot find any pictures or help online or from my local pet store.  It is very purple, not on the red or blue side, just purple.  It is kind of pretty on the live rock, but it takes over all the sand near that rock and anything else close, like shells. Nothing eats it (not now, nor did the lawnmower blenny I had that recently died)  Any idea what it is and how it can be controlled?

Answer
this second pic is either dino or cyno bacterial algae (also known as slime algae) its toxic to fish and humans alike so thats why nothing eats it. it can be a real pain in the ass to get rid off so syphon as much of it out as possible next water change.

have a look at your phosphate and ammonia levels in the tank and try reducing the ammount of time your lights are on for a bit. aloso a good method is increasing flow to the affected area, or generally through the tank, this does not allow the spores to settle.
