water circulation

Question
Can you explan about circulating the water in my aquarium
and how you do it?

Answer
Sarah,
Water circulation is important for a number of reason.  Gas exchange, oxygen levels, etc for fish and for reef aquariums it is important for filter feeding inverts and corals.

That being said you want to get a pump that will circulated your aquarium between 8 and 10 times an hour.  So... a 50 gallon aquarium should have around 500 gallons per hour water circulation.

There are other more in depth explanations I can give you, but I'll save that for when you've got your tank running and in the off chance you have an issue in your aquarium that is related to water circulation.

Best of luck!

Scott Johnson
