Canister and skimmer

Question
I have a 29 gallon tank ( freshwater fish) that want to turn into saltwater tank do I need a canister and skimmer ? Or can I just get a good skimmer and just use that.

yes you can just do the skimmer, it will work fine for filtration, however, the best type of filtration system for a saltwater setup is a beneath tank sump, or refugium. which you can easily attach a skimmer onto so it does not interfere with the look of the tank.
