Skimmer problems

Question
I have a case of red slime and added thr slime reomover to the tank. After I added the slime remover my skimmer went crazy and started blowing air in my tank and filling up the collection cup with water. Decided to wait 24 hours and then start the skimmer again, same thing is happening.
WHY?

Answer
Roland,

Typically when you treat an aquarium with various liquid treatments, you'll want to momentarily turn off your protein skimmer. This is because chemicals change the surface tension of the water, thus causing your skimmer to go momentarily bonkers. An alternative would be you could try adjusting your skimmer to alter/adjust the skimmers ability to compensate for the air to water ratio in the skimmer chamber, so it doesn't fill with water so quickly. Then once you're finished treating your aquarium for red slime, re-adjust your skimmer back to the way you had it before starting the red slime treatment.

Regards,
Dave
