Antibacterial treatments

Question
I hope my question finds you well, I am wondering if you are aware of any issues with using Mardel Biospheres products in addition to other antibiotics. Mardel warns against mixing their products that contain "biospheres" with other medications of the same nature (antibiotic or antiparasitic, depending on which product of theirs you're using) because the "unique" biospheres "action" may cause problems. Are you aware whether or not this is indeed the case? I have a very ill gouramis with a large wound consumed by what appears to be a bacterial body "fungus" and I have began treatment with Maracyn-Plus but his condition has worstened.  I would like to treat with a Nitrofurazone compound in addition as the bacteria has previously proven to be very stubborn, but am hesitant due to Mardel labs' warning. Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Rachel,
Thank you for your question. I do not recommend any chemical treatments for sick fish, since they generally do not work. Most fish sickness comes from over feeding, polluting the water. If you add chemicals to the mix, it does not cure the original problem.
Here is my page for holistic aquarium care:

If you want to try something completely different, stop all chemical treatments, buy a bottle of "Cycle" (friendly bacteria), and do the "emergency care" procedure at the bottom of the page.
If worse comes to worse, I encourage you to set up your tank again and follow the feeding and care instructions at my page.
Write back if you wish to discuss further.
