Question
i have four zebra fish in my 15 gallon tank along with some other types of fish as well. i just realized recently that one of my zebras have gotten very fat, im not sure if its pregnant or not, how can i tell?? i know they are all short finned zebra danios but i dont no how to tell if they are male or female. i have had platy's in the apst who have had babies and i put a divider in the tank and usually about three live to be full grown because the other fish get alot of them.  i odnt want to seperate the zebra from the tank comletely b/c if it has babies too many might survive for the space that i have... what should i do if it IS pregnant??
thanks:)

Answer
Hi Chloe,
If you suspect your fish is pregnant you should make up a small breeding tank with a layer of marbles on the bottom. Add about 10cm of water. After placing a dozen together, the eggs are laid. Being non-adhesive, they drop between the marbles. The water is shallow to prevent the parents from eating the eggs as they drop. After 2 hours, remove the parents and marbles. Hatch the eggs in the tank with a small airstone bubbling gently. Feed them on crushed flake and baby brine shrimp.
Hope this helps
Chloe.
