black moores

Question
I have a 55 litre tank , been set for well over 6 months .
2 black telescope moores approx 3" a piece . Juwel 60 aquarium running standard juwel filters and activated carbon filters for good measure . Tested water today and all is well . PH 7.8 , ammonia and nitrate 0 .

Water changes are made weekly at the rate of 20% - i use aquarium salt as i was told this helps gill efficiency etc .

Problem is - I noticed this evening my fave telescope neo has developed a red mark under his eye , also it seems on his inner gill coverings - he eats well , shows all normal attributes of fish behaviour and eats like a pig haha !

In the tank there are 3 well established natural plants and one plastic - any ideas as to what this could be ? I'd hate to lose the little bleeder , he was my first fish and I think the fish tank partner trinity might be somewhat heartbroken if he was claimed by god almighty into aquaria heaven .

Thnx in anticipation of your reply ,

steve .

Answer
Hi Steve;

Since he is acting normally it may be just from new head growth developing. The fleshy part on their heads is called the "wen". As it grows new areas it sometimes gets reddish and/or whitish first. As long as the fish doesn't get worse and still seems to act normal, it's probably fine. If it does get worse, he may need an antibiotic. See what your local fish store has for redness from bacterial infections. Watch and see how it goes.

I hope all is okay......
