Question
i will be selling my current 50 gallon tank as i don't have room for it in my apartment anymore (just had a baby). however I'm very attached to my parrot cichlid. hes about 5 inches and I've had him for 2 years. i would like to buy a new tank no larger than a 20 gallon to keep him in. is this a bad idea? will he be cramped? any info would help?

Answer
Hi Tanya,
You could put your Parrot cichlid into a 29-gallon, which is 50% bigger than a 20 gallon but doesn't take that much more room. A parrot cichlid will probably be fine in that size tank. If you want, you could let him have a few companions in the form of a small school of tetras (black skirts, lemons, ect..) which would be great. Sometimes parrot cichlids don't do very well when kept alone.

*Congratulations on the new baby!
Best wishes,
Karen~
