Question
I am in the process of cycling my 50 gallon tank for going on 7 weeks.  I currently have 6 Danios and that is it.  I have been taking my water in to get tested on a regular basis as I really would like to get some more intersting fish.  We were having trouble with the ammonia level, however the ammonia level is finally good.  Now the nitrates are too high.  I have only done one partial(1/3) water change since set up and have not yet vaccumed the gravel.  Help!

Thanks,
DeNae

Answer
Hi DeNae:  I have been keeping aquariums for years and recently started a new 55 gallon tank and experienced the same issues you have... it even hits us pro's!  I ended up taking all the decorations out and gravel vacuume like crazy... I would advise you to do the same... I ended up tanking 15 gallons out, putting new water in and gravel vacuuming another 15 gallons out... and my nitrate/nitrite levels have finally come down.... Please keep me posted on your tank progress... and if you have other questions... I am happy to help... dave
