help i dont want my fish to die!

We just got a new fish tank and set it up, we already had one jack dempsey cichlid, today we added 3 more different varieties of cichlids, while i was at work my boyfriend dumped about 1 1/2 cups of ammo carb into the tank instead of putting it in the filter..is this going to hurt my fish? what should i do?

Hi Kristin:  I think your fish will be fine.  The only issue may come up if they ingest the ammo carb and I doubt that will happen.  It will eventually get sucked up into the filter... where you can shake it off into the garbage. It is suppose to go in the filter as that is the most effective place for it to do its job... but it will work in the tank water as well... if you have a small net you can try to remove it from the water...
