Foam on top of water

Question
I have a 56 gallon tank that I just recently cleaned due to constant cloudy water. I completely tore down the tank, cleaned with no chemicals. It has been set up for a few days now, with fish in it (cichlids) and now there is a foam floating at the top of the water, this foam was there also prior to tearing down and cleaning, now it's back again. What could cause this and how do I get rid of it?

Answer
Hi Randy,
Sounds like your tank is just new and needs time to get established. The foam on the top is due to organics coating air bubbles in the water and making them less likely to pop. The organics of course would come from your cichlids and the cloudy water is also explained by their waste production and the tank being new as it is.

I wouldn't tear it down again. This won't really solve the problem. The best thing to do for the water problem and the fish is to leave the tank as is but keep doing 30-50% water changes everyday. Your aquarium will still establish and it will help get rid of the cloudiness and foam.

Water changes are the miracle treatment for almost all water quality problems.

I hope this helps!
