Question
The fake plant in my Beta's tank has a white slimy coating on it as well as the rocks.  I sterilized the tank three days ago hoping that this would help.  However, yesterday I noticed that it was coming back.  My fish is acting healthy and he doesn't appear to have any scum trailing off of him or any discoloration.  I feed him twice daily and he eats everything I give him.  What would be causing the scum?  Should I get a snail for his tank as I have no filtration system?

Answer
Hi Heather:  Are you over feeding the betta??? if not then I would monitor the amount of light that your betta's tank is receiving... it is probably algae which can be caused by too much light.... How often do you change the water???  let me know.... dave
