Swim Bladder disease in Orandas

Question
Well the title of my question is already apparent. I ave tried everything except for sticking a needle into the swim bladded as one person suggested I do. Can't seem to bring myself to do something like that. Don't want to injure him. I also am not sure what to do about two of my Oranda's overgrown wens. It have overgrown so much that it is now blocking their eyes. No vets here that specialize in removal of the excess wen either. Poor little hippie looking Orandas. But the swim bladded thing has prevented my Oranda from turning right side up and he floats at the top of the tank, which exposes his belly to the air and is now red. He is a Red Cap Oranda so his belly shows the bright red well now where it has been exposed. I have to hand feed him now as he can not get to the food himself. I have also fed him fresh peas hoping this would help, but it hasn't...:o( He looks so awkward upside down and struggles to swim normal but can't. What can I do? He isn't sickly really except for the red exposed tummy which is starting to go away only because I myself submerge him pariodically under the water. Would appreciate any help I can get for lil Nemo.

Thanks Much

Answer
Allie,

When you feed him the peas, you are discarding the outer shell right? I know people that use green beans and it does the same thing. I would not suggest the pin in the swim bladder either. I would be too afraid it would be done wrong. Usually, the pea works, but I would try using a green bean and see how that works. Its the same deal, remove the outer shell before feeding it to him.
As for the over grown wen, as long as it isn't making breathing difficult, I would just leave it be. I know that some people trim them themselves, but I cannot and will not advise you to do that. Just make sure he is breathing ok and keep an eye on him. If breathing starts to be a problem, all I can suggest is researching how to trim it, or you might get lucky and a vet will know how to do it. I hope the green bean helps the swim bladder problem, if not let me know.
