Healthy Betta Not Eating

Question
Hello.  I bought a betta from a breeder in Thailand and I live in Canada.  He is in a 20g freshwater aquarium at 80 degrees farenheit.  He is vibrantly coloured, no visible signs of disease, very active and swims up to see me every time I approach the tank.  He has not eaten for three days (since I have received him).  I have tried flakes, pellets, freeze dried blood worms, frozen (thawed and rinsed) blood worms and mosquitoe larvae.  The fish will swim up to the food, pause, then swim away.  If the food falls, the fish will follow it down, then swim away.  I remove all food he does not eat.  I have also tried holding the food in my fingers.  The fish will approach my fingers and puff out, but not eat.  How can I get him to eat?  Any help is appreciated.  Thank you!

Answer
Patti,

I am not sure how long you have had him but if you just got him that is normal. He went through a few days without eating so that he could be shipped. Then he got to you and living in a new home. He is a little stressed and I would turn his heater up to 82 degrees. You might even have a picky eater. Continue to feed him the variety of food and eventually he will get it that that is food. We never know what food they are eating before thy get to us. Some have a harder time adjusting to new food but eventually start eating. they can go 2 weeks with no food and some have lived  longer. Good luck and if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.
