weird white worms in my tank

Question
We have had our tank for 21/2 years.  We have African chiclids and an algae eater.  Recently, our biggest fish up and died, he was bloated and white (normally orange).  We took the water to be tested and found we had a high nitrate level.  We have been told to change a bucket of water once a week, our Ph is fine at 7.8
We just discovered tiny tiny white looking worms all over our glass...please tell us what they are and what to do-they don't seem to be on the fish....

Answer
Hi Raegan;

They are just planaria and totally harmless to your fish. They are however a sign of overfeeding, so are the high nitrate levels. Vacuum the gravel and cut back on food. The planaria will go away and so will the high nitrates. To get things back in a healthier condition, replace 25% of the water twice a week for the next 3 weeks or so and vacuum the gravel every two or three weeks.

Once everything is better, just do a 25% water change every week and vacuum every 2 to 4 weeks after that.
