Question
OK ive had a tank for 2 years..  started with 2 tanks... 4 fish... but some died.. so ended up putting the 3 in one... things where fine for a year...But my black moor got really sick and I could tell that my bigger gold fish was picking on him. I am not kidding, he was eating him. So I put him in isolation. I felt he had better chance healing if not being chowed on. Anyways... he looked better.. even if he had no more fins.. looked like he was getting all better then boom dead bloated stomach.. so I was left with big gold fish and my other one (I called him my klingon golfish cause he head a ridgy forhead). anyways I treated the whole tank due to the black moor.  a week later the klingon one started to move less.. looked fine but mostly stayed at the bottom.. then I woke up to him floating :( so now I have one.. the big ass gold fish. not sure what kind he is.  Orange/white.  id say about 2 inches long.  Anyways mom got a small tank..mines small but that one is smaller.. my aunt just got home with 3 gold fish....   There is no way im sticking 3 fish in that lil tank.  im wondering if it would be safe to put one in my tank? or is he gonna eat them to? the others are gold fish to btw. and small.  im just not sure what to do with those 3 gold fish...  that tank is awefully small. would be fine for 2 but not 3. but after I saw mine eat my black moor not sure if I want to stick a fish in my tank?

Answer
Hello Sabrina-

It's well-known to moor owners (mostly through personal experiences like yours) that goldfish and moors do NOT get along at all. Goldfish are way to competitive for the relaxed, easy-going moor.

The klingon fish was probably some kind of oranda, which also do badly with goldfish. I'm sorry for the loss of both of these little ones... :(

In fact, the only thing that goldfish won't hurt are gouramis and other goldfish. But, gouramis can't live with goldfish because goldfish produce too much ammonia, so most goldfish owners are stuck forever with goldfish.

That being said, the 3 new guys should probably do fine with the big guy, as long as there is enough food and room for all the fish to swim comfortably. It's really your call on what to do; since I can't see the fish/tanks in front of me, it's hard to give advice.

Hope this is useful,
