possible parasites in my convict tank?

I have a 5 gallon tank with one convict in it(approx 3" long) that has worm-like objects floating all through the water that measure roughly 3mm long. They are black in color and appear to be swimming or wiggling around.  If you have any idea what these may be and how to get rid of them, I would appreciate the advice.  Thank you

Hi Joni,
 Do you have a filter in that tank or is the water very still?  If the water is very still, that would explain the worms -- they are likely mosquito larvae.  They would swim with a rather jerky motion.  Is that what you are seeing?
