agressive plecostomus?

Question
Hi I just bought a Plecostomus (George) and whenever my other fish which are two fantail goldfish go near him he raises all of his fins. Is this a sign of aggression?

Answer
Hello Lindsey!

That is just him telling the goldfish to stay out of his territory. Plecos lack the ability to do any real harm to fish (no teeth you see), so I wouldn't worry about it.

However, I have to point out that goldfish are coldwater, and plecos are tropical. They shouldn't really be kept in the same tank. You could split the difference and put your tank aroud 75 farenheit though, it wouldn't be ideal but it would work out fine.

Also, I have to point out that plecos grow...BIG! It takes awhile for them to reach adult size, so you have a good 10 years, but when they finally stop growing they can get around 2 feet in length, and would need a 125 gallon tank. But like I said, you're fine until then!
