garbage bags?

just a quick question. if i had to make a quick fix aquarium, say is one of mine started leaking, would a garbage give off harmful chemicals into the water? if so, what could i use?

Hi Derick,
 I always keep a Rubbermaid tub around, just in case.  Get a new one, and rinse it a bunch of times and then set it aside as your "emergency tank".  Resist the urge to put other stuff in it, or if you can't resist that urge, put fish-related supplies in it, so you know where it is and it isn't contaminated.  

 A garbage bag would not work well because it is too easily punctured by a fish's fin.
