QuestionI have a male Oranda goldfish and he is always swimming upside down or just floating at the top of the pond. Is this normal or should I be worried?
AnswerHi Jessica,
He's got swim bladder disorder. That causes them to turn upside down or float.
Their swim bladders have issues with regulating how they right themselves.
This can be caused by many things.
Nitrites and ammonia can play parts. They are caused by dirty water.
Parasites can cause it.
Sometimes he's just constipated, so I recommend feeding him ground up frozen peas for awhile to see if he can't pass the issue out. :)
I hope you feel free to email me back anytime and that this has been helpful for you.
Happy fish-keeping.
