Excitable budgie!

Dear Leah,

I have 2 budgies - Tweety, a male who is nearly 5 years old and Aggie who is only about 9 months old.  Although Tweety feeds Aggie and seems to get along with her they have never mated.  Recently Aggie has become obssessed with her mirror and will rub her bottom on it all day.  it was quite amusing at first but now it's downright embarassing and she has also started chasing tweety afterwards.  Poor Tweety seems to be getting fed up of all the attention and I'm worried that they will injure eachother in a fight.

Any suggestions?

If they're getting violent, I would try a trial separation for a few weeks.  If they're not hurting each other, just give it time.  It's possible that they are trying to breed.  Females will often preen their vents when they're getting ready to have eggs.  See how it goes for a few days, and keep me posted!
