Question
Hi, its David. My nesting box is very dark inside. Theres bearly any light coming inside it. I was wondering if maybe that is the reason why my birds are not going inside the nesting box. Can budgies see when it is very dark in there nesting box?

Answer

Nest box
It's not impossible, but highly improbable that this is the reason.  It won't hurt to make a few light holes though.  But if the nest box seems too open, they may reject it because it would be too easy for predators to get into.  What does your nest box look like?  How big is the entrance?  Here's a picture of the kind that I use.  It allows light in, is big enough for them to get in and out, but not so big that they reject it.  Budgies generally aren't too picky because in the wild, they nest in trees, and take whatever they can find, but I find that this style works well because you can see inside it easily and without disturbing them.
