Question
Hi I read a q/a about cold sweats and noticed this in a three year old
barrel horse mare I have it just happened over the weekend at a show
and I guess my question is could this be happening because of a
pregnancy and what trimester would it be close too ? I've only owned her
for six months and recently found out she was exposed to a 3 yr old
stallion before I got her .... Please help big nbha show coming up !! Thanx

Answer
I very well could be happening because of a pregnancy. I would take her to a veterinarian to see if she is pregnant. You do not want to ask her to run barrels. You could be stressing her and her foal. Gestation is 340 days, If you have had her for 180 days she could be having a foal in as little as 5 months. At this stage of gestation a vet will just need to palpate to feel the foal. Palpations are not expensive and you will have a sure answer. A three year old stallion is certainly old enough to get a mare bred. You need to know for sure.
