Belgian Draft

Question
I bought a Belgian Draft almost 2 years now and she was about 600 lbs under weight.  She seemed to be doing well and gaining weigh until we moved a few months ago.  We moved from west to east Texas.  Now she is on the decline again.  We feed her Nutrena Prime and Empower with hay.  She is turned out during the day.  Is she a hard keeper, am I not feeding her enough, or was it the move? I used her for light riding but was injured so she's not being worked.

Answer
I suspect there is a health problem. Maybe ulcers, or teeth issues. I would have her checked out by a vet and see if you can start ruling things out. Keep in mind, they need to eat 1% of their body weight in hay and feed. That is a tremendous amount! If you are feeding her enough and she is still thin then you have to start ruling out problems. If you aren't feeding her that much, up her feed before you go spending a bunch of money on exams.
