Follow-Up on rearing horse

Question
Hi,
This is Amanda. I asked you a question a while ago on my     rearing horse that flipped over at a show and then again a year later and I didn't know what to do, so I asked you. I am just here to tell you how we are doing. Well Vinnie was at a new barn when the last accident happened and we don't think he like it there so we brought him to his old barn where he has ben there almost since he was a baby. The first couple days did not turn out so good. The trainers there though he went up because he was cinchy. So my trainer took him out the second day to see what he was going to do. So she put a western saddle on him and went out to the arena and cinthched him up extremly tight because she is a trainer that whants to get things done fast. So when she did that he reared up with the whites in his eyes and he went over. This brought up a big problem on my trainers fault because Vinnie's old owner is at the barn and she thought what she did was ridiculous, but my trainer wanted to see one more time to make sure but with a english saddle. Then the next day she did the same thing and he went over again. Now we think he is extremely cinchy. Vinnie's old owner who birthed him is fixing him and doing good. After 2 weeks on New Years day I rode him bareback with his halter and he was really good. Then I rode him a couple days ago bareback again and he was almost as good as he was before the accident. He is trusting me and we aren't rushing at all now just taking it step by step. My goal is to be able to ride him at the Evergreen State Fair because thin is my last year as an intermidiate and I would like to finish of my year good. Don't worry I won't go if I'm not completely confident in him. He is so happy being home and I hope all goes well. I know this e-mail isn't much of a question but please right back. I got your last reply on November 24, 2006 so you can see my last e-mail.
No longer a Worried girl,
Amanda

Answer
Hi Amanda!

Thank you for the update on you and Vinnie  :-)

I am glad to hear that you are taking it slow and that you have someone that you and Vinnie both trust working with both of you.

I feel the need to say that this rearing problem will never go away completely.  You can get him to bury it deep, deep down but, the second he gets stressed again...he will do it. He sounds hyper-sensitive to riding and I just want everyone involved to be safe!

Please take care of yourself and listen to what Vinnie is trying to tell you.  If either of you are not ready to take the giant step of going to a big show, leave him home and catch ride a more prepared horse.

I don't want to have to worry about you and him....so ~ please don't do anything that would worry me!!  LOL!!

Be safe and always wear your helmet!
