Question
Hey my name is Tina and i recently bought a beautiful black registered paint i was told that he had been rode before but i have had to do a lot of work with him so I'm not sure that he really has been rode a whole lot, anyway he constantly wants to walk backwards, sling his head back and just continue to back into what ever. When he does it i let him do it while trying to turn him in circles when he finally stops i continue to make him do it for several more steps to let him know that its really not what he wants  to do. Is there anything more i can do? any suggestion?

Answer
Hi Tina!

Yup, there is lots to do here.  Your horse is a little stuck.  You need to get down to the feet.  He is braced and does not know how to do what your are asking and lacks confidence.  It seems from the little bit you shared that your horse is pretty green and has not had much education.

I would like for you to read some of the answers I've posted on starting young horses as well as the posts for leaving the barn and leaving other horse friends.  They will help you start solving this problem with quality.

When you have looked these over, let me know and I can answer questions more specific to your horse and your situation.  It's just that I want you to have a bit more information to think about, first.

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Smiles and Miles!  Denise

Hi Tina!

How are things going?  Just wanted to check back with you and see if you had any specific questions after your reading.  Take your time, this can be a really difficult problem to solve with quality.  Denise

The answer I wanted you to read was "Hacking alone"  that I wrote to Sarah.  I wrote this one just a day or so before your queation came in.  Check it out! Denise
