Question
hello ma'am. how much should a good show jumping rider weigh? i believe that a good show jumper should always be less than 55kgs. am i right? but my friend, an experienced show jumper told me that weight doesnt matter, it all matters about the balance we need to have when the horse jumping over the fences

Answer
Depends on the age, conformation, strength. bone mass of the horse. If 50 kilos os 110 pounds, then 55 is a very reasonable weight.

I open jumped for several years and I am very tall so weigh more. But the horses I jumped were part Warmblood or big sturdy Thoroughbreds.

Some of the horses I see in videos are of slight build, lighter bone, therefore riders should be lighter.

Your friend is right in that balance and skill make it easier on the horse, but weight is still a factor.

it just makes sense.
Try running with a pack pack on you containing 7 kilos and then try one with 15 kilos. It makes a difference.

But then distribute the weight in the backpack unevenly and you can carry less...that is what your friend is saying.
