New foal & First time mother

Hi, Just wondering at what point can a Foal be separated from the Mare? Just thinking short term, i.e., a day so i could take the Mare out riding?

Answer
This varies by many.  I like leaving a baby with mom for as long as possible, it they are pastured together, a year or more is not bad.  Short trips away are good as long as you start off slow.  Keep them in sight at first until they learn the will be back together.  Then the first time out of sight only do a half hour at first then work up to longer times.
