Question
i have a 33 yr old quarter horse that always grazed but now hes not grazing. I had him  checked for colic they said he was ok but im concerned that hes not putting his head down to graze

Answer
Hi - sorry I didn't answer this sooner -

First of all - is your horse eating AT ALL? Or just not putting his head down to graze?

If he is just not putting his head down (extending his neck), due to his age, there may be an issue with his neck itself, or even into his head/face/jaw.

How are his teeth?  Have they been checked recently for any jagged edges etc?

Have you noticed anything else different with him?  Will he put his head down to drink?  It is VERY important for him to keep up the fluid intake, especially in the summer.

If he is eating ok from say a hay rack or hay bag, I would make sure he is provided with plenty of feed that way, also with a raised water bucket.

If you can answer any of the above questions I have, I can try to get you some more answers.  I am actually working this weekend, but will  be on the computer a few more times before Sunday night.

Best of luck - Lisa
